Getting Stabbed In The Back…..

….That’s what it feels like when you have a rib that is misaligned. The rib joints have a lot of nerve inervation, so a little misalignment feels like agony. Generally the pain is exacerbated with every breath you take!

The great news about all this? This condition is often easily correctable in just 1-3 adjustments.

Degeneration Of The Spine

What are the stages of spinal degeneration? They are just a quantitative way to describe the advancement of wear and tear (osteoarthritis) on the spine.

Stage I–misalignment of the joint

Stage II– misalignment with signs of degeneration–beginning signs of OA, bone spurs, disc degeneration

Stage III–misalignment with advanced signs of degeneration–moderate to severe signs of OA, bone spurs, disc degeneration

Stage IV–approaching total fusion of the joint–advanced signs of OA, bone spurs, severe to total disc degeneration

As you can see, misalignment starts the process. So visit your chiropractor today and get an ALIGNMENT!

Fat Is Fabulous

Fat has become a four-letter word. Fat-free and low-fat has become the new diet trends. But the tragedy is that fat is essential for good health. Our bodies use fat to make hormones: happy hormones, concentration hormones, ane everyone’s favorite….sex hormones. This is why people on low-fat diets often suffer from depression.

Of course, you must identify the diffrence between healthy and unhealthy fat. Unhealthy fats are commonly found in fast foods, fried products, meat, and dairy. Stay away from these fats as much as possible, because they will make you fat. Healty fats can actually help loose weight. Healthy fats are found in raw nuts, fish, coconut, olives, and avacado. It’s a great idea to have at least one of these foods everyday.

So start a new craze, heck, even get a T-shirt, FAT IS FABULOUS!

The Importance of Posture & Stretching

When patients are hurting, the most common question I get is “how did this happen?”  Often times patients will become symptomatic after doing something as simple as brushing their teeth or sneezing, but that is not how the problem begins. Generally it is just the straw that breaks the camel’s back.

So what are the culprits?

Number 1, posture. Posture is a 24 hour-a-day job; sleeping posture, computer posture, driving posture, walking posture, etc. Our bodies are only designed for walking, running, and lying down. This means anytime you sit or jog you are damaging your spinal column. Think about your day. How many hours a day are you annoying your spine, spinal musculature, and nervous system?

Number 2, lack of stretching. Remember the old adage, if you don’t use it you’ll lose it? This could not be more true for the joints of our spine. Each vertebral joint moves in 14 different directions. Think about the 24 vertebra in your spine, how many times a day, week, month, year, or even decade, do you think you put them through their full range of motion? Lack of use causes the joints to decay. This decay over time will become symptomatic.

Chiropractic restores mobility to the spine, BUT that mobility is limited to the amount of decay present in the joint. Take charge of your health; make a conscious effort to use good posture and do a daily stretching routine. These 2 things are the simplest, (cheapest) and most effective things you can do to keep a healthy, beautiful spine.

Why Chiropractic?

I’m not in that much pain, why should I get adjusted?

I’ve heard this line many times. The simple answer is any pain is a sign from your body that something is wrong and needs to be fixed. So fix it.

The slightly longer answer is easily understood once one understands the basics for chiropractic.

The problem occurs when a joint loses its full range of motion, like say from being hit in a car accident or spending too much time slumped over the computer. When the joint has lost its full range of motion toxins and swelling build up at the joint. These toxins and swelling pinches the nerve. If the pinched nerve is responsible for feeling pain, you feel pain. If the pinched nerve is responsible for hearing, you hear tinnitus. If the pinched nerve is responsible for controlling the rhythm of your beating heart, your heart goes too fast or too slow. Etc…

So now that you know WHY you should get adjusted, HOW does the adjustment work? The ONLY thing your chiropractor does with a chiropractic adjustment is to restore the range of motion to the joint. That’s it. Your body takes over from there, dissipating the toxins and swelling and healing the damaged nerve.

So get adjusted. And feel better.
