I’m often asked “what is the most important thing I can do for my spine?”

Easy…..POSTURE.

Posture occurs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Posture when you are sitting, walking, driving, watching TV, using the computer, raking the leaves, jogging, sleeping, brushing your teeth….everything you do, every second of the day.

This may seem over-whelming at first, but a little effort goes a long way. Start by thinking about your posture every now and then. You will start to develop good habits and these good habits will grow and more good habits will develop.

During pregnancy, there are several physiological and endocrinological changes that happen to the body to prepare for a beneficial environment for a developing baby. Some of these changes could cause a misaligned spine or misaligned joints. Those changes may include an increased back curve due to a protruding baby bump and pelvic changes.

Establishing pelvic balance and alignment allows for more adequate room during development and helps the baby find the best position for delivery. This, in turn, allows for a more natural, non-invasive birth.

The nervous system is the master communication system to all the body systems. Keeping the spine aligned helps the entire body work more effectively, naturally.

I’ve long been a fan of this quote by Mother Teresa, “I was once asked why I don’t
participate in anti-war demonstrations. I said that I will never do that,
but as soon as you have a pro-peace rally, I’ll be there.”

I am a firm believer in the power of funneling my thoughts towards the ultimate outcome of what I desire. Often times I hear from the media about “The War On _____” (you can fill in the blank with just about anything nowadays). Unhappily, I believe these campaigns may sometimes elicit the opposite of the desired effect for the person who is supporting it……

Take the classic example, “Don’t think of a pink elephant”. At this point you only have 1 of 2 responses. 1. Think about the pink elephant while saying don’t think, or 2. redirect your thoughts to another subject. Our brain does not know ‘not’. It only functions in the positive/yes mode. Therefore, by saying let’s fight The War On _____, our brain only hears ______. Let’s use the example the war on cancer, all our brain hears is war and cancer. The more we say the war on cancer, the more we are telling our brain war and cancer, war and cancer, war and cancer.

My goal is to start a campaign, with a signature color, wristbands, and fundraiser runs for positivity and happiness. My campaign will only speak in the positive for things that are universally in the highest good for all; Positive Mental Attitude, Exercise, Sleep, Nutrition, and the simple things we can do to support these 4 basics. Right now, the working title is Campaign For Positivity & Happiness, but I am open for suggestions.

Now…..where to start???

For those of you who are aware of the health dangers posed by artificial sweeteners and dutifully avoid them, the findings of a recent study may come as a shocking surprise…

In recent tests, water samples from US water treatment plants discovered that the artificial sweetener sucralose (Splenda) is a widespread contaminant in both source water and treated water

Sucralose is a persistent contaminant as it is not broken down by the chemical water treatment process

Previous research has shown that sucralose can destroy up to 50 percent of beneficial intestinal bacteria (probiotics), which are essential for general health and a strong immune system

Sucralose is chemically closer to DDT and Agent Orange than it is to sugar

Splenda is known to cause a multitude of detrimental side effects in certain people, including allergic reactions and neurological dysfunction

Are you a healthy person that is scared of dying from the flu? How many people really die of influenza every year? Following are from the CDC:

2002: 753 died http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/nvsr/nvsr52/nvsr52_13.pdf (p.16)
2001: 267 died http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/nvsr/nvsr51/nvsr51_05.pdf (p.16)
1999: 1,685 died http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/nvsr/nvsr49/nvsr49_08.pdf (p.28)

Many of those that died were immune comprimised individuals.

Flu shot and Alzheimer’s

Hugh Fudenberg, MD, the world’s leading immunogeneticist and 13th most quoted biologist in the world today, states that if an individual has five consecutive flu shots his/her chances of getting Alzheimer’s disease are 10 times higher. Apparently the aluminum and mercury in the flu shot have an affinity for brain tissue causing brain damage. So why is the flu shot recommended for pregnant women and infants?

The flu shot helps infants and children with asthma and congenital heart disease?

Not at all. In fact a study published in Archives of Diseases of Children showed the opposite. The vaccinated group had a significantly increased risk of asthma-related clinic and emergency room visits. (Christy C, Aligne CA, Auinger P et al. Effectiveness of influenza vaccine for the prevention of asthma exacerbations. Arch Dis Child. 2004;89(8):734-735.)

Many do not realize the link between carpel tunnel syndrome symptoms and chiropractic spinal misalignments…. True carpal tunnel syndrome is when the carpal bone ligaments in the hand no longer hold the bones in the proper position, the tunnel that holds the median nerve to the hand is compromised and subsequently pinches the nerve to the hand causing numbness and tingling.

These same symptoms can be mimicked if the lower cervical nerves in the neck are being pinched. These cervical nerves are the lifeline between the arm and the brain. Pinching it acts like stepping on a garden hose and can impinge the function of the nerves it controls.
It is recommended to have your neck, shoulder, elbow and wrist checked for misalignments if you have experienced these symptoms.

This is your life. Do what you love, and do it often. If you don’t like something, change it. If you don’t like your job, quit. If you don’t have enough time, stop watching TV. If you are looking for the love of your life, stop; they will be waiting for you when you start doing the things you love. Stop over analyzing, life is simple. All emotions are beautiful. When you eat, appreciate every last bite. Open your mind, arms, and heart to new things. And people, we are united in our differences. Ask the next person you see what their passion is, and share your inspiring dream with them. Travel often; getting lost will help you find yourself. Some opportunities come only once, seize them. Life is about the people you meet, and the things you create with them so go out and start creating. Life is short. Live your dream and share your passion.
