Constipation is a symptom to a larger problem, not a disease. Almost everyone experiences constipation at some point, and poor diet or lack of exercise typically is the cause. Most constipation is temporary and lifestyle changes will help relieve symptoms and help prevent them from occurring. These changes may include daily exercise, adding high-fiber foods to diet, such as fruit and vegetable juices, clear soups, and drinking enough water. When this fails to offer relief, the problem may be related to the nervous system. The nervous system can be looked upon as the electrical system of your body. The brain’s job is to gather sensory information, assess and then transmit a correct response. When the nervous system cannot communicate with the digestive & immune system properly it points to something else such as pinched nerves.

Chiropractic adjustments may help relieve constipation in certain individuals. Special nerve cells in the intestine, called ganglion cells, make the muscles push. The celiac ganglion, in turn connects to the spinal cord (and the brain) through nerve roots. Pressure on these nerve roots caused by misalignment of the vertebrae in this area may interfere with the normal function of the bowel as well as other organs of the digestive system.

An adjustment will help kick start your nervous and digestive system to get you going again!
